We recognize that no single therapeutic approach is inclusive of all clients. AHTC puts emphasis on the individual needs of each client and focuses to uncover the most appropriate therapeutic approach for all. The trademark of AHTC is our commitment to delivering high quality, personalized behavioral health care. Our modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectal behavioral therapy, dual-diagnoses therapies, social and developmental therapies, recreational activities, psychoeducation, on-going emotional guidance and support.
Taking a brave step to come to a treatment center can be overwhelming and stressful. The feelings of uncertainty, guilt, fear, and uneasiness are all part of the general process many individuals experience. However, keep in mind you are providing yourself the professional expertise, care, and tools you might otherwise not receive elsewhere. Arise Hillside Treatment Center is a place where you will process mental health needs, behavioral needs, and dual diagnosis needs. Rest assured our professional staff and clinical team will provide you the needed tools for growth and resiliency. Meet the Team

Syuzanna Shirinyan, LCSW
Founder/Clinical Director
Syuzanna is the clinical director and the founder of Arise Hillside Treatment Center.
Syuzanna is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#110363) who attended the University of Southern California, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in social work with an emphasis in cognition and innovation.
Syuzanna, brings years of clinical expertise and a profound knowledge of resources available to individuals facing mental health challenges. Throughout her career, Syuzanna has explored diverse clinical settings, where her expertise and empathy have made significant impacts in treatment and beyond. Syuzanna’s therapeutic support has been instrumental in helping individuals navigate complex challenges. She plays a pivotal role in advocating for primary mental health services and treatment modalities.
Syuzanna is passionate about Arise Hillside’s core values. She is a firm believer in empowering individuals by building trust through compassion and understanding to better understand themselves and their mental health journeys.
Dr. Daniel Duel, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Duel is board certified in General Adult Psychiatry and has experience in providing psychiatric treatment for the full scope of mental health disorders. He also has a special interest in Addiction/Substance Use Disorders and has successfully helped many struggling with use disorders overcome their struggles through therapy, medication management, and lifestyle optimization. As Medical Director of an outpatient addiction clinic, he created and led a clinical team of counselors, therapists, case managers, and nurse practitioners to provide clients with wraparound care addressing both addiction and mental health disorders. He has also worked as an Adult Psychiatrist in the Los Angeles area through various community clinics serving patients on Medi-Cal and those suffering from severe mental illnesses.
Dr. Duel is a UCLA Bruin through and through. He obtained his bachelor’s in Psychobiology at UCLA, completed medical school at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and completed his psychiatry residency training at UCLA. Through his training at UCLA, Dr. Duel also worked at the West Los Angeles VA, trained in TMS, and trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety, mood, and sleep disorders. He has extensive pharmacologic experience treating complex mood, psychosis, OCD, anxiety, and geriatric disorders.
In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, traveling, and spending time with family. He is also fluent in Farsi.


David Schwartz, LMFT
Group Facilitator
David Schwartz, MS, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#87261) who has led hundreds of group sessions in a variety of therapy modalities. He is committed to helping people understand their motivations and triggers, in an effort to help them become less reactive in their lives. David believes that when people understand what causes them to react negatively, they can start making choices that can lead to better outcomes in their lives.
David has been a Clinical Director for two residential treatment centers. In addition, he has been a professional writer for decades, most recently contributing to the anthology book, Spider-Man Psychology-Untangling Webs. David has his own blog on the Psychology Today website, and has written two books, Relationship Held Captive: Free Yourself for True Intimacy, and Your Career, Your Rules.
Shahrzad Shadmani, NP
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
Shahrzad Shadmani is a dedicated healthcare professional with over 12 years of experience, specializing in both psychiatric and family medicine. As a dual-licensed and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Shahrzad brings a unique blend of expertise to her practice.
Shahrzad is passionate about mental health and wellness, and she strives to promote holistic approaches to care that prioritize both physical and emotional well-being. She believes in building strong therapeutic relationships with her patients, empowering them to participate in their healthcare journey actively. When she’s not in the office, Shahrzad enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors and loves whipping up new recipes in the kitchen. She looks forward to serving her community and making a positive impact on the lives of those she encounters.


Marz Lund
Intake Coordinator
Marz is an intake coordinator at Arise Hillside Treatment Center. Marz takes great pride in being the individual on the other side of the line navigating and supporting the client in need. With a strong background of both personal and professional experience in mental health, Marz brings a vibrant and knowledgeable value to Arise Hillside Treatment Center. Marz is also taking strides to fulfill her academic requirements on the road to become a social worker.
During her free time, Marz enjoys completing art projects, going on spontaneous adventures, spending time with family and friends, and working on projects for her hobby of fashion.
